Welcome to Linton Music!

Six great concerts make up Linton Music Society's new season!
These are all concerts of high quality with fascinating programmes-right on our doorstep. Tickets are available at the prices below, but do join as a Member this year to both support your local organisation and gain savings on ticket prices. All six concerts for £42, £38 concessions, make a huge saving.

(please note: all concerts are held at the Linton Village College except the Lucy Cavendish Singers which will be at St Mary's Church, Linton)

Songs for a Winter's Night

A concert of seasonal songs for all the family to celebrate Advent, with guitar, harp and lute. The programme will include well-known favourites such as 'The Three Kings', 'The Coventry Carol' and 'Walking in the air', together with an enticing selection of medieval, classical and traditional pieces. The stunningly beautiful 'Stars' by Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds will be accompanied by the ethereal sound of water-tuned wine glasses. Suitable for all ages.

A prize-winner of several international competitions, Cambridge based virtuoso French pianist plays Johannes Brahms and Vitezslav Novak's variations based on themes by Schumann, plus Schumann's own Symphonic Études in Variation Form.

An evening of English music for eight cellos, including a new arrangement of the ever-popular ‘Tallis Fantasia’ and Gordon Jacob’s witty and irresistible octet; followed by a complete performance of Richard Birchall’s narrated version of The Wind in the Willows, a unique adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s classic animal tale.

Follow Mole, Ratty, Badger and Toad on their unforgettable escapades on the river, through the wild wood, behind the wheel, and battling to regain Toad Hall from the weasels. All brought to life in this brand new musical version.

Schubert Arpeggione Sonata

Fauré Cello Sonata no. 1 in D minor, Op. 109

Saint-Saëns Cello Sonata no. 2 in F major, Op. 123

A programme of cello favourites by two of this country's most established and finest chamber musicians.

John Myerscough won the Gold Medal and First Prize at the 2006 Royal Overseas League Music Competition. He is also the cellist of the Doric String Quartet. Their first CD was released to critical acclaim on the Wigmore Hall Live label and was Editor’s Choice in Gramophone.

…[Alasdair Beatson] shapes and weights every phrase with a caring devotion, liquid sonority and gentle cantabile. There are times here where one could scarcely credit a hammer mechanism is involved… highly sensitive playing of rare insight.

Classico Latino

 

The award-winning group Classico Latino seamlessly blends the techniques and sounds of classical music with authentic Latin American rhythms and melodies. Creating unique and groundbreaking arrangements alongside original compositions, the group’s performances appeal to a wide audience drawn from all cultural backgrounds. Classico Latino are attracting a fast-growing UK audience and already have a large following in the Latin America and further afield.

Midsummer Musical Picnic

 

THE Linton Midsummer Musical Picnic returns in June, organized by Linton Youth Music and this year is presented as a “Great Get Together”.
It will take place from 1-6pm on Sunday 18th June on Camping Close. Musicians include LVC Symphonic Wind Band, Linton Jazz, school and community choirs and Cambridge based carnival rhythm band Arco Iris.
